This Torpedo " Blue Bird " portable typewriter was made in West Germany in 1961. Torpedo was taken over by Remington Rand in the 1930's and it's reputation was lifted when in 1955 Hanne Friess won an international typing competition in Monte Carlo using a Torpedo Solitaire and claimed the world title.
This Blue Bird is in good overall condition for its age and is lovely to type on and has the slightly larger "pica" size type face giving you 10 letters to the inch. It has an all metal body and is in a two tone light grey and blue colour and silver chrome trim with the Blue Bird logo in silver and " Made in Western Germany "on the carriage and the manufactures details on the back. It has light blue coloured keys with darker grey shift, tab, back space, margin release, space bar and carriage knobs. There are a few minor marks to the body, mainly at the left hand side of the carriage, but generally it's in a wonderful condition.
This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced, adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and is fitted with a new top quality American made Universal ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on.
We can supply Universal typewriter ribbons from £6.95 each including postage. Available in plain black, red/black and a range of other colour options. You can then rewind new ribbon onto the metal spools now in the typewriter.
It comes with its original covered wooden carry case which is functional, but does have some marks and stains on the inside and the outside. There is also signs of age and wear to the handle and closure although these do work well.
We include a copy of an original Torpedo 18 manual.
This is a lovely working typewriter which was beautifully made and types well with a wonderful snappy action and would be perfect for extended and large typing projects.
