Imperial typewriters were made in Leicester in England and the Good Companion model was first launched in 1932. It was named after J. B. Priestley's book " The Good Companions" which had been published at the same time and the collaboration with Priestley helped sell a huge number of Imperial typewriters.
This model is a No 1 and was made in 1943 and is in a charcoal "crinkle " black colour with a metal body. It has the traditional silver chrome surrounds on the vintage black keys with dark creme coloured letters and numbers on the keys. It has the Imperial Royal Warrant crest on the top right, " Manufactured by the Imperial Typewriter Company Ltd Leicester England " on the back and the "Imperial " logo on the top above the carriage as well as above the keys. This one types with the slightly larger pica sized type face giving you 10 letters to the inch and has a cork platen.
There is some small marks to the metal body, some minor wear and discolouration to a few of the keys, but generally it's in a wonderful condition.
This typewriter has been professionally serviced, cleaned, adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and fitted with a new top quality American made Universal ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on.
We can supply Universal typewriter ribbons from £7.95 each including postage. Available in plain black, red/black and a range other colour options. You would then just rewind the new ribbon onto the existing metal spools.
It comes with its case and is therefore screwed to the base board. You can remove the typewriter from the base if you wish by undoing the screws. The case has some marks and signs of wear and discolouration mainly on the inside, some wear to the handle chrome fittings and the original leather handle is missing. It still has the internal metal part of the handle which can be used to carry the typewriter.
This typewriter comes with a photocopy of an original Imperial manual with instructions on how to use it, change its ribbon and a whole list of its features.
The typewriter measures 29cm by 29cm by 12 cm high.
This is a wonderful classic 1940's Imperial typewriter.
