Typewriter, 1937 Underwood Universal

£595.00 GBP

This is a 1937 Underwood Universal portable typewriter in good working order and a fabulous condition for its age. Underwood was based in New York and became Underwood Elliott Fisher around 1927 before later becoming known as the Underwood Corporation and made a wide variety of typewriters up until the early 1960's when Underwood was taken over by Olivetti.

It has 4 banks of black coloured  keys with silver chrome surrounds  with off white coloured letters and numbers with the back pace and shift lock keys in a green colour. There is the Underwood name and logo in gold on the carriage and front edge as well as the manufacturers details on the back of the typewriter. This model has the larger Pica type so types with 10 letters or characters to the inch.

This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced, adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and fitted with a new quality American made black ribbon so it's ready for you to start typing.

We can supply new typewriter when required from £8.95 each including postage. You  rewind the new ribbon onto the metal spools already in the typewriter.

It's is in a wonderful overall condition with a shiny black enamel paintwork finish and one of the best examples we have seen.

The size of the typewriter is  26 cm wide by 26 cm deep and is 12 cm high and so is a nice portable size. We also include a copy of it's original instruction leaflet.

It comes with its original case which is also in a good functional condition. The leather handle and latch to close both work well. There are some very minor marks and discolouration to the case in places on both the inside and outside.

This is a fabulous and very collectable black enamel 1930's Underwood working typewriter in pretty well mint condition.

"My Olivetti arrived a couple days ago. Got a chance to test it out and it works like a dream (you wouldn’t guess it was nearly half a century old). Thank you for including the original metal spools, it adds a great touch to the machine. Looking forward to adding another typewriter to the collection sometime soon..." - Jake
