Imperial typewriters were made in Leicester in England and the Good Companion model was first launched in 1932. It was named after J. B. Priestley's book " The Good Companions" which had been published at the same time and the collaboration with Priestley helped sell a huge number of Imperial typewriters.
This model is a No 1 and was made in 1935 and is in a shiny black enamel black colour with a metal body. It has the traditional silver chrome surrounds on the vintage dark coloured keys with off white coloured letters and numbers on the keys. It has " Manufactured by the Imperial Typewriter Company Ltd Leicester England " on the back and the "Imperial " logo on the top above the carriage as well as above the keys and on the front edge. This one types with the slightly larger "pica" sized type face giving you 10 letters to the inch and comes with the silver chrome finials on the metal spools.
There are only a few very minor marks to the metal body mainly at the top right hand side and some slight discolouration and signs of wear to a few of the chrome silver keys, but generally it is a very nice condition.
This typewriter has been professionally serviced, cleaned, adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and fitted with a new top quality American made ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on.
We can supply Universal typewriter ribbons from £6.95 each including postage. Available in plain black, red/black and a range of other other colour options. You would then just rewind the new ribbon onto the existing Imperial metal spools.
It comes with its original case and is therefore screwed to the base board. You can remove the typewriter from the base if you wish by undoing the screws. The case has some marks and signs of wear in places to both the inside lining and outside, but is in a good functional condition. The handle and clasp to close work well despite having some signs of wear.
This typewriter comes with a photocopy of an original Imperial manual with instructions on how to use it, change its ribbon and a whole list of its features.
The typewriter measures 29cm by 29cm by 12 cm high.
This is a wonderful classic 1930's Imperial typewriter.
