This Royal portable was made in the US in 1938 and is in a lovely shiny black enamel colour . It's a Junior model which were made to a budget and popular as "Depression" style typewriters which aimed to be slightly cheaper and more competitive in the market. It therefore has no bell ,no right hand margin stop and no ribbon colour selector ( one colour only ) . It is in an extremely good condition for its age with only a few very minor marks and signs of wear to the paintwork mainly at the back and at the top right hand edge. It has the old classic style glass topped keys with silver chrome surrounds in a charcoal black colour with dark creme coloured numbers and letters .These are all in a very good condition . Please also note that in some of our images there is some reflection of the map from behind on the black enamel of the typewriter.
It has the Royal logo on the front above the keys as well as the Royal logo and manufacturers details on the front edge and comes with two metal spools .The silver chrome work is also in a nice condition.
The typewriter is in full working order, types well and we have given it a clean , service adjusted and tested it as well as fitting a new ribbon , so its all ready for you to start typing on .Its a very nice compact size being 25 cms wide x 26 cms deep x 10 cms high .
GR9 typewriter ribbons can be purchased from many online suppliers or we can supply you with new ribbons when required . We would recommend that you rewind the new ribbon onto the existing metal spools .They generally cost around £4.95 including postage . However a ribbon will last you a long time . To give you an idea , in an office environment with someone using a typewriter professionally a ribbon would last them around 3 months.
There is a wooden carry case with charcoal black leatherette covering which is also in a good condition for its age with just some minor marks and signs of wear .It has metal closure fittings and a handle which is sound .This case also still has it's original key.
It has a serial number BJ67762 which dates it to 1938.
This is a stunning 1930's Royal portable typewriter with glass topped keys in a good working order for it's age.
