This wonderful green enamel coloured Corona 4 portable typewriter was made in 1930 in the USA . Production of the four bank Corona portables commenced in 1924 and continued right up until the Second World War .
This one is in a working condition , types in the larger " Pica " font size of 10 letters to the inch and has the traditional silver chrome keys with the letters and numbers in black on a beautiful vintage creme colour , although the silver chrome work has worn on some of the key surrounds down to the brass and some key tops have turned slightly . It has the Corona Four logo on the front with "L C Smith & Corona Typewriters Inc " on the front bar .The metal chrome work is in a good functional condition, but it has lost is shine over the years and there is some pitting and signs of wear in places .It has two metal spools and the original metal covers that fit over the two spools .There are marks and chips to the enamel paint work in places . The typewriter measures 26 cms wide by 28 cms deep and 10 cms high.
It comes with its original case which is fully functional and works well , but does have some marks and wear to the covering over the wooden box . The clasp to open and close it works well and the handle is sound .
We have given this Corona typewriter a clean , service , tested and adjusted it as well as fitting a new ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on .
Group 1 typewriter ribbons can be purchased from many online suppliers or we can supply you with new ribbons when required . They generally cost around £4.95 including postage .You would then just rewind the new ribbons on the existing metal spools. A ribbon will last you a long time . To give you an idea , in an office environment with someone using a typewriter professionally a ribbon would have lasted them around three months.
This is a highly collectable working 1930's Corona typewriter in a fabulous and rare green colour . It not only a wonderful display item , but is suitable for occasional typing such as letter writing or poetry. If you are planning on doing serious extended typing a more recent machine would be a better option.
