Imperial typewriters were made in Leicester in England and the Good Companion model was first launched in 1932 . It was named after J. B. Priestley's book " The Good Companions" which had been published at the same time and the collaboration with Priestley helped sell a huge number of Imperial typewriters .
This model is a number 5 and was made in 1959 in England and has a metal body in a wonderful and rare dark red enamel colour with black keys and dark green shift keys and space bar .
It has " Manufactured by the Imperial Typewriter Company Ltd Leicester England " on the back and the "Imperial " logo badge at the front . The type on this one is Elite which is slightly smaller than Pica and has 12 letters to the inch.
It types very well and is in a generally good condition for its age but there are some blemishs to the paintwork in places .It has fading and discolouration at the front sides and corners , paint loss and scratches on the right hand top section of the carriage and on the back corners . The space bar also has age signs of wear and use but is still totally functional . We have fitted a brand new ribbon as well as giving it a professional service , clean , adjusting and testing it so its all ready for you to take out of the box and start typing on .
Group 1 typewriter ribbons can be purchased from us when required and are available in plain black , plian blue , plain purple or Red/Black for £4.95 each including postage . A ribbon will last you a long time . To give you an idea , in an office environment with someone using a typewriter professionally a ribbon would last them around 3 months .
It comes with a smart tan coloured carry case which has a clip to close and a handle which are both working well .There are a few marks and signs of wear to the outside and inside of the case but generally it is in a very good condition . We also include a copy of an original instruction booklet .
The typewriter measures 32cms by 28 cms by 11 cms high .
This is a wonderful Mad Men style typewriter in a rare dark red colour and in good working order .
