A stunning 3 Bank Folding Erika portable typewriter made in 1913 by Seidel & Naumann who were based in Dresden , Germany and also produced their typewriters under the Bijou brand name. This one is a fine example of a wonderfully engineered and made machine and is in a shiny black enamel colour which is in a nice condition with just a few marks and scratches mainly at the back . It has 3 characters on each typebar and has seperate shift positions so you can type lowercase letters , uppercase letters and the full range of figures .It has the traditional black with metal surround and glass topped keys with the numbers and punctuation keys in an off white .There is some discolouration to a few of the keys. It has the Erika logo in gold on the front as well as the two S&N logos just above ( slightly faded ). The carriage folds forward and rests on two silver chrome supports that come out from the front corners for when not in use or to place into it's carry case.
This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced , adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and fitted with a new Group 1 ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on.
We can supply Group 1 typewriter ribbons when required at £4.95 each including postage. Available in plain black, blue or purple. You would then just rewind the new ribbon onto the existing metal spools. Please note you can't use a two tone ribbon with this typewriter only plain colour ribbons. A ribbon will last you a long time . To give you an idea , in an office environment with someone using a typewriter professionally a ribbon would last them around 3 months .
The enamel paintwork and silver chrome work are all in a good condition with only some small marks and discolouration in places .It types well for its age and would be ideal for writing letters or poetry , but if you are after something for extensive typing projects then this may not be the best option .It comes with it's original all leather tan case which is in a fair condition for something dating from 1913 . It does show signs of wear and age and has marks and discolouration on both the inside and the outside .The original handle has been lost and another handle fitted at some point replacement so the case is functional. We also include a copy of an original Erika / Bijou instruction manual.
This is a highly collectable folding and working 1913 Erika typewriter in a classic black colour and would make a wonderful and special gift that makes for a great display item and can be used for small typing projects.
