A stunning Erika Model S portable typewriter made in Dresden , Germany in 1934 . Erika typewriters were made by Seidel & Naumann pre war and the same plant was used to restart the Erika production after the war , but in what became East Germany . This one is a fine example of a wonderfully engineered and made machine and is in a matt black colour with a "crinkle" finish . It has the traditional off white with silver chrome surround and glass topped keys with the numbers and punctuation keys in a black . These are all in a nice condition with just some slight discolouration to a few .It has the Erika logo in gold on the front , the carriage and the back as well as the model and manufactures details at the front edge. It types with the slightly larger Pica font size of 10 letters to the inch and has a "qwerty" layout but does also have the German Umlaut keys. There is some minimal wear to a few of the letters on the metal type heads. Please note that this model only takes a one colour ribbon. You can't use a two tone coloured ribbon on this machine.
This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced , adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and fitted with a new Group 1 ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on.
We can supply Group 1 typewriter ribbons when required from £4.95 each including postage. Available in plain black and a range of Universal ribbons in other plain colour options . You would then just rewind the new ribbon onto the existing metal spools. A ribbon will last you a long time . To give you an idea , in an office environment with someone using a typewriter professionally a ribbon would last them around 3 months .
The paintwork and silver chrome work are all in a good condition with only some small marks and some small paint touchups mainly at the centre front edge . It comes with a case which is in a good overall condition for its age . There are some signs of wear in places to the covering over the wooden case and the base board has been taped. You can keep it on its base board or take it off the four prongs that hold it in place . The top of the case fits over the typewriter and clips in place . The metal fastening to close works well . The original handle is sound and works well.
This is a highly collectable working pre war Erika typewriter with lovely glass topped keys.
