Typewriter , 1951 Imperial - The Good Companion No 1

Imperial typewriters were made in Leicester in England and the Good Companion model was first launched in 1932 . It was named after J. B. Priestley's book " The Good Companions" which had been published at the same time and the collaboration with Priestley helped sell a huge number of Imperial typewriters .

This model is a No 1 and was made in 1951 and is in a charcoal "crinkle " black colour with a  metal body . It has the traditional silver chrome surrounds on the vintage black keys with dark creme coloured letters and numbers on the keys .It has the Imperial Royal Warrant crest on the top right  ,  " Manufactured by the Imperial Typewriter Company Ltd Leicester England " on the back and the "Imperial " logo on the top above the carriage as well as above the keys .This one types with the standard  " Elite " sized font giving you 12 letters to the inch .

There are only a few very minor marks to the metal body and some slight discolouration to a few of the keys , but generally it is a very nice condition .

This typewriter has been professionally serviced , cleaned , adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and fitted with a new Group 1 ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on !

We can supply Group 1 typewriter ribbons at £4.95 each including postage. Available in plain black, red/black, blue and purple. You would then just rewind the new ribbon onto the existing metal spools. A ribbon will last you a long time and to give you an idea , in an office environment with someone using a typewriter professionally a ribbon would last them around 3 months.

It comes with its case and is therefore screwed to the base board . You can remove the typewriter from the base if you wish by undoing the screws. The case has some marks and signs of wear in places to both the inside and outside but is in a good functional condition .The handle and clasp to close work well although the original outer lining of the handle is now missing , but the internal metal handle still makes the case fully functional.

This typewriter comes with a photocopy of an original Imperial manual with instructions on how to use it , change its ribbon and a whole list of its features .

The typewriter measures 29cms by 29cms by 12 cms high  .

This is a wonderful classic early 1950's Imperial typewriter .
