This is a 1931 Underwood Universal portable typewriter in good working order and a lovely condition for its age. Underwood was based in New York and became Underwood Elliott Fisher around 1927 before later becoming known as the Underwood Corporation and made a wide variety of typewriters up until the early 1960's when Underwood was taken over by Olivetti.
It has 4 banks of vintage off white glass topped keys with silver chrome surrounds with black coloured letters and numbers, which are all in a nice overall condition. There is the Underwood name and logo in gold on the carriage and on the front ( slightly worn ) as well as the manufacturers details on the back of the typewriter.
This model has the slightly larger "pica" type face so types 10 letters to the inch. Please note there is some reflection of the map behind on the black enamel body of the typewriter in some of our images.
This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced, adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and fitted with a new top quality American made black ribbon so it's ready for you to start typing.
We can supply Group 9 typewriter ribbons when required from £7.95 each including postage. Available in plain black, red/black or other colour options on Universal spools. You can fit the plastic spools or rewind the ribbon onto the metal spools already in the typewriter.
It's is in a lovely overall condition with a shiny black enamel paintwork finish with just a few very minor marks to the metal body and some paint touch ups in places mainly at the front edge and at the back. The silver chrome work is slightly worn.
The size of the typewriter is 26 cm wide by 26 cm deep and is 12 cm high and so is a nice portable size. We also include a copy of it's original instruction leaflet.
It comes with its original case which is also in a good functional condition. The leather handle and closure work well. There are some small marks to the case in places on both the inside and outside.
