Typewriter, 1932 Underwood Portable

This is a wonderful 1932 Underwood portable typewriter in good working order and a lovely condition. Underwood was based in New York and made a wide variety of typewriters up until the early 1960's when Underwood was taken over by Olivetti. The standard 4 bank model began production in 1926 and ran to the mid 40's.

It's is in a lovely condition for its age with a shiny black enamel paintwork finish with just a few very minor marks to the metal body mainly on the right hand side, some small paint touch ups in places and the ribbon covers have been re sprayed. This one has the slightly larger "Pica" sized font giving you 10 letters to the inch. Please note that some colour from the vintage map behind in the images may be reflecting on the enamel paintwork.

It has 4 banks of glass topped keys and these are in an off white with silver chrome rim and black coloured letters and numbers, which are all in a very nice condition. The metal chrome work is also in a good condition with just some small signs of wear in places, mainly on the ends of the levers at the right hand end of the carriage. There is the Underwood name and logo in gold above the carriage and the manufacturers details on the back of the typewriter. The typewriter types very well for its age and we have given it a clean, professional service, adjusted and tested it and fitted a new ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on.

New Group 9 TW1 top quality American made ribbons can be obtained from us from £ 6.95  including postage. Choose from plain black, two tone black/red and other colour options on Universal spools.

The size of the typewriter is  27 cm wide by 27 cm deep and is 12 cm high and so is a nice portable size. It comes with its original case which is also in a good functional condition for its age. The original handle and latch to close both work well. There are some marks and discolouration to the case in places and some wear to the handle. This one has the original warranty label on the inside of the case lid.

This is a fabulous and very collectable 1930's working typewriter in a lovely condition and with a service and new ribbon is all ready to start typing on again.

It also comes with a photocopy of an original instruction booklet for Underwood Universal Portables which will provide valuable help for changing the ribbon.
